Fort Collins’ Newest Traveling Trend: Hostels

There is no doubt that Fort Collins is a tourist hot spot with the endless natural areas, bike paths, foothills and of course the breweries. For the more non-traditional travelers two hostels have opened in Fort Collins to provide more inexpensive lodging options.

Two new hostels have opened in the past few months in the Fort Collins area only a few miles apart. For a city that has relied mainly on hotels and motels for its visitors the hostels are definitely a new and exciting trend.

Many hostels are prime destinations for students, backpackers and young people who are looking for the experience while traveling. Both of the new hostels in Fort Collins were influenced by the owners’ time spent abroad. Chelsea Gressman, 31, purchased the former Atrium Health Spa last year before turning it into Solarium International Hostel. Kelsey Schwager, 27, bought the historic Sheldon House in June and opened it up as Fernweh Inn & Hostel in October.

Both hostels have various room accommodations including dormitory-style living with multiple beds in one room and a common living area or kitchen, as well as private rooms. Each hostel ranges from about $30 to $60 per night depending on the style of lodging. This offers a great resource for travelers for a great price!

Some Coloradans may not be aware of the hostels currently opened in Denver and Boulder, but the trend is expanding. It may not expand throughout the entire United States, but it definitely is expanding in the Fort Collins area.
