Monochromatic Bedroom Décor in 2018

One of the hottest trends right now in the home décor arena is monochromatic color schemes for bedrooms. Before you think this equals “boring,” think again. When done right, monochromatic décor is sophisticated, soothing, and ultra-chic. It just takes a bit of planning and analysis in order to bring the room together and to avoid a flat presentation that is overly neutral or lacking impact.

Monochromatic décor does not have to be centered on neutral colors. In fact, with Pantone selecting Ultra Violet as the Color of the Year for 2018, bright colors are popular, including purples, pinks, and bright blues when it comes to sprucing up the bedroom.

To start designing around this concept, keep a few tips in mind to create the space you want:

–Select the color “family” you are interested in, such as browns, grays, whites, etc. Gray is exceptionally in this year as a modern take on neutral

–Next, shop the array of colors in this palette. For instance, choose a light gray duvet cover, a dark gray throw blanket, and gray/white accent pillows. The bed is the focal point of the room, so starting with its new look will anchor the design and make it easier to add in pieces around it.

–Add in decorative touches such as artwork, bedside lamps, a vase of fresh flowers, and personal touches in the same color family, possibly including metallic touches that coordinate with your selected colors (gray/silver, cream/gold, etc.)

–Keep the paint scheme simple and basic, mapping to the same color scheme as the rest of the room.

–Patterned and textured lampshades, pendant lights, pillows, and accent furniture will tie the room’s look together and add extra “punch” to the room
