A few fellow RE/MAX co-workers and our team took a tour of the recently updated Senior Center!
The current location, off of Shields and Raintree Drive, was originally built in 1995 and has come a long way since! It sits on over 9 acres of land, backing to Rolland Moore Park, connecting the center to the Fort Collins trail systems. The Senior Center is open from 6-9 PM Monday through Friday, 8-5 PM on Saturdays, and 9-8 PM on Sundays and is only closed for a total of six days throughout the year! The center is not just open to 50+ year old’s, as it was when the center first started, but is open to anyone 18 years and older!
The center is an implementation of a three-pronged vision: health awareness, lifestyle management, and wellness education. The idea of expanding was to be able to provide the space to give individuals opportunities to use the facility in various ways. The Senior Center’s diverse program selection includes: travel, outdoor adventure, special events, fitness, arts and more. Today there are over 65 classes per day and about 1,200 people come through the building every day!
The Fort Collins Senior Center provides adults an opportunity to access and engage in recreational opportunities, stay active and socialize. The Health and Wellness program provides classrooms for various programs, many of which are free or very low cost. The new cardio and weight room connects to the track and gymnasium, and overlooks the 25-yard, 4-lane swimming pool and 10-person spa (which is set at 100 degrees to appeal to the older crowd). The media and library is run by volunteers and offers six community computers, various magazine subscriptions, and many books. The facility provides ample space for larger events, performances, education classes, arts and crafts, several different gathering areas filled with tables for games and puzzles, and even has a pool table room! The center also supports the only 50+ theater group in Fort Collins, the SOAP (Slightly Older Adult Players) Troupe. Meals are served four times a week to those who qualify and is run through the Volunteers of American. Members can also take an array of cooking classes, such as: gluten free, international cuisine, and more.
