Create a game plan to help eliminate any problems that may arise.

1. Start with paint prep- this includes planning. Remove as much furniture as possible and be sure to de-clutter. For the big furniture pieces, move them to the center and cover. Don’t forget to sand your walls either and patch up any holes that are left from nails and screws.
2. Paint from top to bottom- Be sure to paint the perimeter once before starting on the ceiling to make sure there are no seams left. When painting the ceiling, start in one corner and work your way out, keep a wet edge. Speed is of the essence here!
3. Paint the walls- duh, but some people may not take the right steps in doing so. Be sure to frame the room first. Meaning paint around trims, windows and doors first and overlapping the paint. Once the framing is completed, use a roller to do the rest of the walls.
4. Paint the trim- the last step is the trim. Blue painters tape is your friend, so buy plenty! Cover the frames of doors, windows and trims with it. Be sure to paint two coats on the trim, let dry for a few hours and remove the tape. Cover up any spots that leaked onto the walls.

Painting is an expertise that many haven’t been able to master. If you are someone who would rather just leave the framing, rolling, taping and brushing to someone else check out our professional painters below.
