It looks like professionals are still trusted for most household projects, but DIY projects are catching up. Of all household projects completed in 2018 53% of homeowners decided to hire a professional while 47% chose to get out the toolbox and do it themselves. The main reason homeowners chose to hire professionals was to ensure better functionality and livability. Beauty and aesthetics and being in control of how the project looks is the main reason homeowners chose to DIY. The top three interior projects undertaken were a bathroom renovation, a kitchen upgrade or complete kitchen renovation, and installing new wood flooring. The top three exterior projects undertaken were roofing, vinyl windows, and installing vinyl siding. Three fourths of millennials are likely to try their hand at DIY while only half of baby boomers will attempt a DIY project. Either way, now is the time to upgrade your house if you plan to have it on the market for this summer season!
