It’s common to ask friends and family for referrals of who they have worked with when you are looking for a service professional. This same idea translates into real estate.
Did you know that your real estate agent can be a referral source for connecting with other agents outside of just the market they work in?
Simply, a real estate referral occurs when a real estate agent refers a client or friend of a client to another real estate agent. The agent that is referred to will then manages the client’s real estate transaction. The referring agent receives a portion of the commission from the agent that closed the transaction.
When is it beneficial to receive a real estate referral? You may be interested in purchasing property in areas with which you are unfamiliar. This could include a second home in a ski resort or housing for a college aged child attending an out of state school. Maybe you are moving to a new city for a job opportunity or perhaps you know someone who is moving out of your local community. These are opportunities for your real estate agent to help you find an agent in another market. Real estate markets vary from location to location and it is important to be connected to someone who knows the ins and outs of the market they work in.
When your real estate agent makes a referral on your behalf, they will search and identify a qualified agent if they don’t already have one in mind. You will be referred to an experienced agent with demonstrated knowledge of the buying and selling process in the local market. Sometimes you might need a specialized agent depending on the type of property that you want to buy or sell.
A real estate agent who helps their clients connect to other qualified agents helps insure a smooth and professional transaction for everyone.
