Satin Camisole

For February’s Featured Business, our team selected Satin Camisole. This past week, we had the pleasure of meeting with Jessica and Nancy who took the time to show us around the store and answer a few of our questions. Make sure to check out their website, and their Facebook page!

Nancy, the owner, first opened Satin Camisole in Estes Park in 1989. In 1999 Nancy opened her Old Town location in Fort Collins and later expanded the store (tripling the square footage) in 2008. Found on their website, “Luxurious and intimate, you will feel comfortable and at ease in this feminine and beautiful shop,” describes the atmosphere in the store perfectly! Below are a few questions we asked to gain more insight about this Old Town store!

In a few sentences, what are the variety of products you offer:
Special occasion lingerie (long and short chemises, teddy’s, bustiers and babydolls) in a variety of fabrics – soft laces, satin and chiffon as well as comfortable yet attractive pajamas, nightgowns and robes that are perfect for everyday. Basic and fancy bras and panties from several manufactures. Great foundation pieces for slimming and smoothing in all the right places. A large selection of unique,
cut-to-order dresses, tops and skirts for varying shapes and sizes. One-piece, bikini and tankini swimsuits including an array of cover-up and resort-wear options. Men’s silk loungewear and everyday underwear. Accessories like fashion tape, petal tops, garters, sleep masks and gorgeous jewelry can also be found in the store.
What is the busiest time of the year?
Christmas and Valentine’s Day are always busy for lingerie, especially with the popularity of boudoir photo shoots. We sell dresses all year for weddings and other special occasions. Swimsuit sales really pick up in January and sell consistently through the summer. During the spring and summer, we sell a lot of gifts for bridal showers. Women are always in need of new bras and we see a real increase in bra fittings, especially as the seasons change.
What is your favorite product you have in the store? Strangest product? And why?
Favorite product has to be the Esther Williams swimsuit. These vintage style swimsuits are a great price and look fabulous on everyone. They come in all the cute vintage prints like polka dots, cherry’s and leopard. They are always a customer favorite!
The strangest product would have to be the “Braza coolers.” You freeze these little strips in your refrigerator and then put them in your bra to keep you cool. Believe it or not, we have actually sold a couple for women attending outdoor weddings in the heat of the summer. They sound silly but no one wants to pass out at their daughter’s wedding from heat exhaustion!
What do you want customers to experience when they come to the store?
Our store is feminine and romantic; customers come to us when they want a getaway from their everyday world and want to treat themselves to something special. The ambiance is pleasing, the music is soothing and there is something perfect for every kind of woman here. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service. Unlike larger chain stores we maintain a true “boutique” experience. Lingerie, in particular is a very intimate product, women and men require a lot of assistance picking out the perfect item. All of our staff is knowledgeable about fit, style and price of all of our merchandise. At the end of the day it is always best to let us help you, this seems to be what keeps our customers coming back year after year.
What are your biggest challenges being a small business owner in Old Town?
Street closures on Linden. It is wonderful to live in a town with such a vibrant downtown atmosphere however the number of events that take place throughout the summer have proven to be difficult for business.
Do you have any upcoming events or specials for this time of year?
We always encourage our customers to keep up with our Facebook page and sign up on our e-mail list for announcements about upcoming promotions, fashion shows and giveaways. Our most recent promotion was our ‘Double your Money’ gift certificate, $30 for $60 to spend in the store.
