Featured Business of April: Trader Joe’s

This month’s Featured Business of the Month is

TRADER JOE’S!

The new store was the hype of Fort Collins for months up until it’s grand opening in February of 2015. Even still, Fort Collins residents can’t seem to get enough. The new store opened on February 28th with a grand opening celebration at 3500 S College Ave.

Teah, our team’s marketing coordinator, visited the site days after the grand opening. She reported a quirky, yet fun atmosphere with friendly store associates who provide a great assortment and variety of foods.

Trader Joe’s is very well known for their diverse approach to creating a successful business. They started out as a small chain of grocery stores in the 1950s and rapidly expanded after that. Lining their stores with cedar plank and dressing their associates in cool Hawaiian shirts was only a small step in branding their company.

How do they continue to be successful you ask?

  • They buy direct from suppliers whenever possible, we bargain hard to get the best price, and then pass the savings on to you.
  • If an item doesn’t pull its weight in our stores, it goes away to gangway for something else.
  • They buy in volume and contract early to get the best prices.
  • Most grocers charge their suppliers fees for putting an item on the shelf. This results in higher prices… so they don’t do it.
  • They keep our costs low — because every penny they save is a penny you save.
  • They just like to “focus on what matters — great food + great prices = Value.”

…Not to mention, they have some pretty great grocery bags!
