Modern Design With Warmth

Living in Colorado and working in real estate affords us the opportunity to see every type of home imaginable. We live in a location full of unique homes, suburban neighborhoods, quaint and remodeled historic dwellings, and some of the most cutting-edge modern designs on the market today. In a community known for design and creativity, it is no surprise that many of the homes here have been updated to reflect the most on-trend ideas in the interior design and construction realm.

Fort Collins-based company, Freestone Design-Build LLC, is a local entity owned and operated by Scott and Cheri Freestone and the pictures provided here are examples of their expertise in remodeling and designing homes that fit our lifestyles in Northern Colorado. Using a contemporary approach to design yet retaining a home’s integrity in terms of character, the Freestones create spaces that showcase the way to modernize without ending up with a cold, lifeless space.

One hot trend in bathroom design is the “floating vanity.” Many current design ideas center around illusions in space planning, creating the look and feel of a bigger space simply by the way fixtures and furnishings are positioned and being mindful of the flow of a room. Gone are the days of compartmentalized spaces; the trend is now toward transitional spaces and designing efficient storage and functionality. The floating vanity is one aspect of this idea, offering clearance below the vanity itself and “freeing space” so there is additional flow and openness in what is typically a smaller room of a home. Clean lines and modern hardware add to the appeal of this addition to the bathroom.

Modern farmhouse design is also popular and blends the elements of traditional, more rustic home flair with contemporary, efficient pieces. Adding rustic touches to a room that has updated and more modern tile and flooring lends to the idea that old and new can be combined to create warmth, depth, and a space that is ultimately inviting.
Colors continue to play a huge part of the design process, despite leaning towards more neutral and monochromatic palettes at present. Browns, beiges, whites, and grays are increasingly popular and some may choose to leave their living spaces completely neutral, while others might add pops of color. This approach to design is a wonderful way to create options that allow for inexpensive rejuvenation of spaces, based on seasons, trends, and preferences. Right now, Ultra Violet is the Color of the Year (Pantone, 2018) and this rich purple is a fantastic addition to neutral spaces. However, what if by year’s end purple is no longer appealing to you? This is an easy fix if you have a neutral, modern space. Simply replace the accents of your rooms with other neutrals or find another color you love to create added impact in your home. Whichever way you go, the trends are clear: clean, modern, efficient, trendy, and sleek are all solid approaches to redesigning the space you call home.
