Which to Include in your Home Sale

Packing up after selling your home is already somewhat of a daunting task. To make it easier, you may consider leaving some of the heavy, bulky items that are hard to pack up and even more difficult to move. Often times these items can be added to the listing as unique bonuses that could be valued as a major perk to the buyer!

The RE/MAX Housing Blog wrote an article recently listing 7 major items that sellers probably should consider leaving behind…

1. Basketball Hoop– this can be a great item for families with children!
2. Trampoline– again, something that has the potential for families as long as it is in good condition
3. Washer/Dryer– one less thing for buyers transitioning from apartment life to worry about
4. Garage Storage– once the packing is underway, not having to dismantle the shelves and storage racks will be a huge relief
5. Light Fixtures– these can be (for the most part) easily replaced once moving is completed. Make sure that they are updated fixtures so the buyers see it as a perk rather than a burden
6. Child Proofing– might as well leave the socket plugs and safety latches because there’s a slim chance they would have made it to the new home anyways
7. Backyard Shed– the shed is a great addition to the backyard, but trying to move it might be more of a hassle than what it is worth!

Be aware, however, that your buyer may end up saying “No” to many of the items listed above. Make sure to ONLY leave behind items the buyer wants. This includes taking all wall hangings, window curtains and drapery and exterior extras. Don’t forget to patch up any holes in walls or siding from removal of items! The buyers did not want the item and they certainly do not want the holes it may leave behind.
